Sports Club Villa Jogoo is no doubt the most successful football club in East Africa with an unprecedented 16 domestic league titles, 8 Uganda Cup honors and 3 CECAFA clubs.
Named after English side, Aston Villa Premier league football club, Sports Club Villa has stood a test of years, tribulations and always emerged a force not to be reckoned with in Uganda and the region.
SC Villa was the first Ugandan club to clinch a local ‘Double’. That record was extended to six ‘Doubles’ in 2002.
From 1998 through 2004, the team clinched a record 7 consecutive championship titles.
Started as Nakivubo Boys football club way back in 1975, the team was later renamed Nakivubo Villa, and finally SC Villa, a.k.a. Jogoo (Big Cockerel), playing in the lower tier football division.
SC Villa won promotion to the top flight of Ugandan football in 1979, storming the local soccer scene hitherto dominated by Express FC, Simba FC and KCC FC.
Today there is no single local or regional trophy on which SC Villa’s name is not inscribed.
The club is the most consistent on the continent, featuring in two consecutive finals of the CECAFA Clubs Cup and the CAF Cup in 1991 and 1992, respectively.
Football clubs have the players’ hall of fame. From the legendary Paul Edwin Hasule (RIP) who later coached the team, the Club produced several great players who were the pillar for the national team over the years.
Majid Musisi, Santiago Hamza Droma, Nestroy Kizito, Hassan Mubiru, Andrew Mukasa, Andrew Mwesigwa, Aggrey Bigala, Eugene Sepuya, Timothy Batabaire to the current crop of players, SC Villa has produced the cream of players over the years.
Strong Administrative Pillars:
The Jogoos as they are fondly termed have stood a test of trial progression over the years with excellent leadership of various regimes.
From the founding president, Patrick Kawooya to the reigning man at the helm of the presidency, Eng. Ben Emmanuel Misagga, SC Villa has witnessed growth from strength to strength
“The club’s foundational pillars were strong. Administrators at the club have always treasured their work, love the club at heart, and for SC Villa, the sky is the limit,” former President, Franco Mugabe reveals.
Current President, Eng Misagga has a bold developmental agenda in the pipe line targeting revival of the lost glory that the club boasts of.
“SC Villa’s legacy has to be maintained. This is very much possible with the right administrative structures, players and the club’s assured fan base”, Misagga’s agenda reads.
All the focus has been now engineered towards the 2015/16 season with the champion’s tag the only intended target.
